A PROBE has been launched at a top city hotel after diners fell ill following an event to promote a new menu.

Hilton bosses in Glasgow are investigating a suspected outbreak of food poisoning at the five star hotel.

Around eight or nine guests are understood to have become unwell after dining on dishes including salmon, lobster, steak and scallops.

The hotel organised a tasting event to launch the new menu at the Morblas Seafood and Grill, which means 'great taste' in Gaelic.

Guests can expect to pay £12 for a king prawn bruschetta starter and £35 for lobster.

A spokeswoman for the Hilton said inquiries suggested the outbreak was an isolated incident and that staff had been in contact with all guests. All of the guests have since recovered.

One guest said: "It was awful, about eight or nine people were really ill.

"Shame, as it was a lovely event and the food was really good.

"They have been on the phone to me ever since to investigate. I can't fault their aftercare so far."

A spokesman for Hilton Worldwide said: "Hilton Glasgow is in direct contact with a number of guests who reported feeling unwell following an event at the hotel on Wednesday, May 1.

"Having launched an immediate investigation this appears to be an isolated incident, and we understand those affected are making full recoveries.

"The hotel operates to the highest food safety standards with the wellbeing of our guests of paramount importance."
