Facelift for city theatre is delayed

STORMY weather has delayed a £250,000 facelift of a Glasgow theatre.

Refurbishment work was supposed to be completed on the Theatre Royal by the end of January, but bosses today said the wraps would come off the theatre around February 17.

Work to bring the ageing exterior back to life began in October.

Glasgow City Council put up £105,000, with the rest provided by managing company the Ambassador Theatre Group, which also runs the King's Theatre.

The A-listed building's Victorian auditorium is home to Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera.

An Ambassador spokeswoman said: "We are delighted with the way things are progressing. Some aspects of the work were weather dependent, but it will look fantastic when it is finished."
