Fizzy logic over cola and chips in 5-a-day diet plan

ALMOST one in 10 parents in Britain believe chips, crisps and fizzy fruit drinks count as part of the recommended five-a-day' health campaign.

A total of 9% of parents think such unhealthy foods are amongst the list of fruit or vegetables we should take each day.

And an overwhelming 82% of parents regularly feed their children ready meals and fast food, a survey by the makers of Florida Grapefruit claims.

Despite nearly a quarter of UK adults being classed as clinically obese, just 8% of parents say they are worried about their children becoming obese or developing health problems.

The poll of nearly 550 people with children showed that more than one in four (27%) of parents encourage their children to eat more fruit and vegetables, and 59% made sure their children do not eat too many sweets and chocolates.

Three in four parents admitted to being concerned their children do not get enough fruit and vegetables.
