Posted by: John Do, Pluto on 12:27pm Fri 23 Mar 07 It's been said before... people get "tanked up" at home before heading out (both alcohol & drugs). So by the time they come into the City Centre they're already fleeing! Ban the "Buckfast" or offer a "Buckfast Light" alternative! Maybe offer "Buckfast Ice" during the summer months. Anybody think that one would take off? ;-] Posted by: Robert, Glasgow on 1:03pm Fri 23 Mar 07 "Others backing the idea are Donald Macleod, boss of CPL, which runs the Garage, Cathouse, and Stavka; and Campus and Blanket owner Carlo Citti." Is this a joke? It is student venues like Campus and Garage offering cheap drinks (£1 a pint, etc) the ones who are selling cheap booze. Do these people believe we are stupid? Posted by: westender on 2:29pm Fri 23 Mar 07 Licensing board chief Gordon Macdiarmid said on citye nightclub "volunteered" to up prices after concerns were raised about spirits being sold for 80p. This head-in-the sand attitude of the city's licensing chief is one of the contributing factors to the increased problems of drunkenness in our city. Posted by: SAS, Glasgow on 4:37pm Fri 23 Mar 07 Love how its the club bosses coming out and saying this! Any price increase will just line their pockets even more. Glasgows in danger of losing its imagine as a good night? Everyone has a good night out because its cheap and have a huge selection of venues to attend. If bar staff were more competant and refused to serve people who are under the influence as per the license agreement the fighting and drunkeness would not be happening at 3am. Is glasgow any different to any other city? Whatever the price of alcohol scots will still 'binge drink'. It a huge part of the current culture and will take years to rectify this. Posted by: Alex Mack, Glasgow on 1:03pm Sat 24 Mar 07 As for Donald Macleod boss of CPL,if anyone cares to listen to the drivel he spouts on his Rock Radio show on Q96 on a Friday night, they will have their eyes opened as all he does is talk about how much booze he swallowed the previous week.
