A GLASGOW doctor is swapping his white coat for the bright lights after winning a prestigious national music competition.
Last week the Evening Times told how medic Eoghan Colgan, 28, beat more than 3000 entrants to make it to the final of Undiscovered, a talent contest run by phone giant O2.
Now, after a glittering live gig in London, the trainee GP has been named the winner.
Eoghan, who lives in the West End, impressed the judges with his songwriting, and has been compared to the likes of Damien Rice and James Morrison.
As well as £5000 of music equipment, he also wins the chance to be mentored by some of the music industry's top professionals.
As part of his prize, Eoghan will perform at the Wireless Festival in London in front of 50,000 music fans alongside the Kaiser Chiefs and the White Stripes.
He'll also release his first single on major label Polydor.
Eoghan, originally from Northern Ireland, works at Stirling Royal Infirmary, but he's now hoping to trade his stethoscope for a microphone full-time.
He said: "Winning the competition is a fantastic opportunity to gain recognition and further my music career.
"During the competition the panel members gave me some invaluable advice and support.
"I am just stunned at the reaction from everyone."
