MORE than 100 motorists have been caught without a licence or insurance in a police crackdown in the west of Scotland.

The three-month operation in West Dunbartonshire and Argyllshire saw 124 vehicles seized by officers and impounded.

The crackdown saw 36 people caught in February, 55 in March, and 33 in April.

Chief Inspector Jim Igoe said that as well as facing hefty fines and penalty points, drivers found without insurance or a licence would immediately have their vehicles impounded.

Mr Igoe said: "I am concerned about the illegal use of unlicensed and uninsured vehicles within the area.

"The message to anyone driving without insurance or a licence is simple - you will be caught.

"My officers will continue to stop motorists throughout the year to ensure all drivers are abiding by the law.

"I believe that the majority of motorists on our roads have the appropriate insurance and licence, however there are a number who believe they will not face criminal charges.

"As well as the criminal charges those driving without insurance or a licence will have their vehicles removed.
