IT may sound an unlikely name for any pop act wanting to sell records - far less three.

But today it emerged that's how many bands are now staking a claim to the distinctly geriatric-sounding title the Zimmers.

The Evening Times told earlier this month how a Glasgow indie band discovered a group of geriatric rockers from London had hijacked their name.

But now it's been revealed a THIRD act, from Scotland, first bagged the title six years ago.

The Glasgow indie Zimmers discovered the London band which had taken their name was a 40-strong group of pensioners who were gearing up to release a charity cover version of The Who's My Generation.

The third group of Zimmers to emerge are a new wave band who've released singles on Cumbernauld's Hellfire Records, run by Andy Frew.

The 45-year-old, who is now a practising solicitor, was astonished to read about the other two Zimmers.

He said: "Sadly, neither of the bands featured can lay claim to the name The Zimmers'. I was and still technically am a member of the Zimmers, a four-piece Glasgow outfit who formed in 2001."

But Baxter Mckellar, a member of the Glasgow indie act, said: "I knew they existed and had since disbanded, so I didn't see any problem with the name."
