Teenager dies in wind turbine fall

A MAN has died after falling 100ft down the shaft of a turbine at the site of a new windfarm.

The 19-year-old construction worker was working inside the turbine at the Earlsburn wind farm, which is being built near Fintry in Stirlingshire.

An ambulance crew from Stirling attended the incident late on Tuesday afternoon, but it's understood that the man, a Brazilian national, had been killed instantly.

The spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive in Edinburgh said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal, who will decide whether a fatal accident inquiry or any criminal charges should follow.

The spokesman said: "Our investigation has started into the cause."

Work on the £27million windfarm, being built by developers RDC Scotland, began earlier this year, despite a storm of protest from residents in nearby Denny who said they had not been consulted.
