I dont see why £25 a month is unreasonable. Its less than I pay for an appalling bus service for a month, for a 2 mile journey that I have to split into two chunks because theres no direct bus! I cant drive to work because theres no parking available. Id happily pay £25 a month.

The majority of nurses this will affect earn between £20-£30K per annum (or to put it another way £1200+ per month after tax) so I don't think £25 a month is unreasonable - I earn much less than this and have to pay £86 a month for public transport - its a fact of life, we all need to pay to get to work whether its public transport or petrol and parking so get over it.

I agree with you all and would point out nurses are no longer poorly paid. there are an awful lot of NHS staff paid significantly less than nurses.

I am not a nurse but feel appalled at the lack of sense shown over this issue. For one the fees will not stay at this level and likely increase as prescription charges have. This money does not go to the hospital but a private company. This is an additional tax on working class professionals.

If the charges are so small why put them in place in the first place?
Is it fair that people in a time of stress, patients, are thinking about cost of parking when they come to hospital?

Why charge hopital employees or users anything. This is only an attempt to cover up a money making scheme or in other words, greed.
Employees could have a free permanent parking tag and visitors a temporary time dated parking tag.
Hospitals are not known for paying high wages to other than doctors and surgeons and I'll bet they won't be charged any parking fees.

At my work (private company) we also finish during the early hours and secure, safe parking is a must.
Our company arranged with a local private car park for employees to take advantage of a corporate rate.
This has the following advantages
Those needing to travel by car get a very attractive parking rate.
Those not wishing to take the car pay nothing
The general public are charged full rate
The important point is the car park is properly patrolled and violation of payment leads to offenders clamped or charged. Parking is more than somewhere to leave your car; you need it to be there at 3 in the morning without coming back to a smashed window.
I can't see why taxpayers should be paying for this. The unions should negotiate the best corporate deal for staff, but they should start be accepting this is a fair proposal.

God it makes me spew when I read the comments of some Glaswegians when they state that nurses are not badly payed, what the F#ck is the matter with your mentality. Nurses are overworked, treated with contempt by some doctors and now by some patients, these ladies/boys are dedacated people who strive to care for the infirm and without them our NHS service would have collapsed by now. Nurses work abnormal hours, indeed sometimes they are put in the position they have be on duty for 36 hours at a time, I don't think any other people in their chosen professions would accept the conditions and stess that Nurses are put under, therefore they are due every Pound that they earn and possibly a lot more.
Some Glesga people are now just pure Ignorant and are money motivated, SHAME on YOU.

£300 a year is not nothing. If you dropped it on the street you would go to the police and report it. Well we are being robbed by our employers. If the NHS gets away with this then you can bet the council will soon levely a charge on all employers who offer parking.

I'm overworked,UNDERPAID unlike nurses, deal with unsympathetic public, work abnormal hours. Doh, I don't get any other person acting on my behalf giving me a days wages from footballers and being called ANGELS. Some of the nurses I have unfortunately been in contact with were horrific, manky, nasty pieces of work.
Some other nurses were really nice.

That is the same as strathclyde uni charge staff many of whom are paid less than nurses. If they were to use city centre car parks it would cost them closer to £1000 per year. They should be thankful for the discount.

stop whining, give up the nursing and get a better paid job. What's it to be money or a vocation? Don't mix the two you'll end up with a headache.
And all that **** about nurses being superhuman, my arse. It's the auxilliaries that get the **** end of the deal, they do the patient care 9 times out of 10 in most non-critical wards in the hospitals. Don't see many of them on a par with nurses salaries.
Nurses wanting to maximise their earnings just leave the NHS and bugger off to the US. Or become an agency worker.
Someone has to pay for all this "free" stuff, I'd rather it went on patients.

I would just like to point out as a nurse in Glasgow that the possibility of paying for a permit is not all It cracked up to be as these permits in Glasgow Royal were issued on a lucky dip basis and only a small proportion of nurses actually received them when parking charges were introduced there.
I am unsure If the plan for the rest will be the same a lucky dip. For the record I think whatever happens should be in the intrest and safety of the nurses and other hospital staff and patients.
Why cant all employees use there ID as a means of entry to the car park.
ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

I stay right next to Yorkhill and I don't see how any of this is going to affect the staff there as they all park in the street. I know the local MP has seen cars being driven across the local playpark as drivers search furiously for their free parking spot in the morning. I am used to being stalked along the pavement if I am seen to leave my flat with what might be a set of car keys. I have also had two occasions where my car has been damaged by cars trying to squeeze into spaces they shouldn't.
Given that the hospital is a 5 minute walk from Partick Interchange and on one of the major bus corridors in the city, there is no need for this and hopefully this lazy shower will be dragged out of their cars by measures such as this.
