Special tribute to David Livingstone

THE great grandson of an African king who welcomed David Livingstone to the Congo was today paying his respects to the Scottish explorer.

King Nzinga Nkuvu met Livingstone at the northern Congo River. His descendant, Bafiba Zomba Clement-Patrice, today honoured the memory of the trail-blazing doctor at the David Livingstone Memorial Centre in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.

Clement-Patrice, the vice-governor of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is among an African delegation touring waste disposal sites and recycling facilities in Scotland.

Ruffin Bangu Mbuandi Pwaty, who is leading the delegation and is related to the African king, said: "David Livingstone is highly regarded in the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially as he fought for the abolition of slavery."
