A terrified Asian family fled their home after a
car was set on fire in their driveway.
Firefighters wearing breathing masks tackled the blaze to prevent the flames from the burning vehicle from engulfing the detached house in Giffnock, East
Renfrewshire.
The flames scorched the side of the home in St Clair Avenue and destroyed a blue Peugeot 206.
The vehicle was parked
in a car port underneath
a first floor extension of the two-storey house.
Today, the burnt-out wreckage had been taped off, while the owner of the house, Parvez Malik, had returned with his family.
He said: "I've got nothing to say at all."
It is understood a man whose garden backs
on to the house raised the alarm yesterday afternoon when he saw the flames
rising above the fence.
A man and his teenage granddaughter were in the house at the time and were led to safety by neighbours.
The fire has blackened
the side of the house and smoke damage is also visible on the first floor.
One neighbour said: "The family were in a state of shock when they saw the extent of the fire. It could easily have spread to
the house and they were very lucky."
Two fire crews from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue attended the call around 2.40pm and spent around
40 minutes tackling the blaze.
Detectives are treating it as wilful fireraising and a spokeswoman said inquiries were at an early stage.
