MEMBERS of the world-famous Brodsky Quartet have formed a four-year bond with students at Glasgow's top music and drama academy.

The musicians have accepted the RSAMD's first International Chair for String Quartet, meaning they will regularly perform at the academy and will work with students.

An internationally acclaimed British string quartet, they perform outstanding classical music and have collaborated with rock stars like Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and Bjork.

The Quartet members said: "We are tremendously excited about our forthcoming relationship with the academy.

"It's been a while since we had a residency of this sort and we feel sure that with the help of the wonderful students and staff we can create some magic together."

Quartet members are likely to visit the RSAMD six times every term for the next four years.

An academy spokeswoman said: "They will not only be performing but will also be teaching and passing on their skills to the students.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and every string player here will hope to be part of any event the quartet is involved in at the academy."

In 1998 the Brodsky Quartet received a Royal Philharmonic Society Award for outstanding contribution to music.
