Iraqi man beaten up in horror race attack

DETECTIVES are hunting two men after an Iraqi was beaten up in a racist attack in Glasgow.

The attackers yelled racist abuse at the 34-year-old man during the unprovoked assault in the East End of the city.

The victim suffered serious facial injuries and needed emergency treatment in hospital.

This incident comes after a 15-year-old boy, originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was stabbed on his way to school in Cathcart.

Police said the Iraqi was targeted by the thugs, aged between 15 and 19, in Helenvale Street, in Parkhead at 9pm on Saturday.

The attackers fled the scene on foot.

Appealing for information, Detective Constable Barry Friels, of Shettleston CID, said: "This was an attack on a member of the public, which has left him badly injured and extremely frightened."

Both men have slim builds and one of the attackers had a black eye.

Yesterday's Evening Times told how a Holyrood Secondary pupil Christopher Ikolo, 15, was knifed in a lane between Aikenhead Road and Polmadie Road at 2pm on Friday.
