City gig will be family-friendly pop

A TRIPLE bill of talent is being lined up for Glasgow this winter.

The concert which will feature some of the most popular acts around - as well as the hottest new talent - will perform at the ABC as part of ASDA Be Live! in December.

A similar gig later this month will see Irish favourites Westlife, X Factor finalists the MacDonald Brothers and newcomers Pacific Avenue, from Glasgow, go on stage in Aberdeen.

The Glasgow line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.

The gig takes place on Sunday December 9.

Siobhan Crampsey of Emap Radio Events, who are organising the events, said: "It's great to be doing a big, family-friendly, unashamedly pop show again.

"We've missed Live and Loud over the last couple of years and so have the people of Glasgow."

Meanwhile, Glasgow indie stalwarts Belle and Sebastian surprised pub-goers in Glasgow's West End at the weekend.

Band members Stuart Murdoch and Stevie Jackson played a busking set in Ashton Lane on Sunday as part of Oxfam's Oxjam music festival.

Earlier in the day they played in a celebrity football match in aid of the charity.

Belle and Sebastian have joined what's expected to be the biggest music festival in the UK, with around 40,000 musicians and an audience of 300,000 taking part in 3000 music events this month.

The fundraising target of £1million from Oxjam this year would provide safe water for 1.4million people, 20,000 emergency shelters or medicines for 10,000 villages.

Campaigns manager Eilidh Whiteford said: "Belle and Sebastian were a great hit with the crowds and collected a lot of money for Oxfam projects."
