Call for Gordon to quit as MSP

CHARLIE Gordon today faced a fresh call to stand down as Cathcart MSP.

James Dornan, Mr Gordon's SNP opponent at the last election, claimed there hadn't been a "fair fight".

And as the row over illegal donations raged on, the millionaire businessman at the heart of the crisis slammed Labour leader Wendy Alexander's team for "gross mismanagement".

Mr Gordon had a 2189 majority over Mr Dornan in May.

However, Mr Gordon has admitted receiving £950 donations from Paul Green for Wendy Alexander's leadership campaign and for his own constituency party.

Jersey-based Mr Green is not allowed to donate because he's not on the UK's electoral register.

Mr Dornan said: "During the campaign in Cathcart it was clear Labour was struggling to get activists on the ground. I've no doubt the extra, illegal amount of funding which became available to the Labour candidate played a crucial role in Mr Gordon's victory."

Langside councillor Mr Dornan has asked the Electoral Commission for an investigation.

He wants to know what action the Commission will take if Mr Gordon is found to have broken electoral law.

As that row developed, Mr Green launched his scathing attack in a radio interview.

He insisted he had regarded his donation to the Labour leader as "above board" after assurances from Mr Gordon.

He also said it was written on a personal cheque from his Jersey address.

The businessman said he was "angry" at being dragged into the row and denied he had been trying to buy political influence.

He added: "How the Labour party managed to get themselves in this mess is something I find difficult to understand.

"I think this has to be gross mismanagement.

"Just looking at it from afar, who in their right mind is going to try and hide £950? I could possibly understand if it was £950,000.

"I find this very sad because I have known Charlie Gordon for a number of years and I have found him to be a very honourable and decent man. Charlie must have been misled, or didn't do his homework."

Mr Green was speaking as Ms Alexander prepared to face party colleagues at Holyrood for the first time since the crisis emerged.

Duncan McNeil, chairman of the Labour MSPs, said today's group meeting would be the first opportunity for them to give her their support.

Charles Gordon is ignorant as well Tony Blair and Jack McConnell, everything I said to him in 2004 with regards to Glasgow and The Labour Party has all come true.

Thay only have themselves to blame for their errors and what happened at the 2007 election, simply because they are ignorant, they ignored the voter and they have ignored the core issues to rid Scotland of Poverty and deprivation etc.

Hell mend them - they have a lot of damage to repair, unless they think that people are really that thick and pretend nothings happened, well they lost an election and now the party is on the ropes.

My oh my, how the tables have turned eh?

Hi, The Missing City.

Oh! how correct you are.

None of them were approachable, they were all that full of themselves they could/should have floated to outer space.
This was always a problem in Glasgow and Central belt. Elmur Fudd if standing under a labour canditature would have been electated. Of course that is being disrespectful to a cartoon character.
The Scottish Government have to make Education in Scotland the biggest issue. Improvement along these lines would go along way to make these eejits never to be elected again.

Oh! My MSP Andy Kerr is among the most unellectable characters you could meet. Doesn't say much for East Kilbride voters..
Ma granny an' Granda voted fur thum.. AYE ..

They even had the cheek to blame it all on Iraq as if there was no problems here on their own doorstep - if that's not the height of ignorance to sh1t on one's own doortsep, Jack McConnell said a week before the election in May that anybody voting for the SNP is a protest vote, to me, that statement is basically is called "cutting off your own balls". Half the country didn't vote, which is normal for Scotland cause Tories and Labour p1sh for years have achieved this, not because people don't want to vote, its because they are all shady.

If the SNP end up being the same, then we will have no credible party to govern Scotland, unless a party can be created to have the best interests of the Scottish people at the very heart of its agenda and that the party excludes the class system as well as the right, middle and left wing system that the dumb parties on offer fall into!

Hi, Missing City.. I couldn't disagree with what you say..
I have confidance though that we are now heading in the right direction with the SNP goverment.
I have also no doubt that more scandal to follow with the previous ruling parties. Not only in Holyrood but Westminster to.
Cheers ..............

New Labour is crumbling around them and about time. An awful party full of morons. Now, if La Purcell would get the hint and beat it....

This council could not care less about the people of this city, our infrastructure and are intent on bankrupting us and selling off our assets to the highest bidder. And countrywide, New Labour have made a mess.

Chickens are coming home to roost.
