Who cares that the number of junkies dying is going up?
Stop wasting money on methadone. How many clues do the NHS need, to figure out it doesnt work?
I dont give a flying **** about junkies. Let them rot.

Besides there's a whole range of stuff they can get their hands on - Smackaroo, Crystal Meth, Crack, Blues, DF118's also known as Diff's or Dihydracodeine - it's like a supermarket out there!

The problem is that most addicts dont WANT to be drug free. Almost every time I go into the pharmacy at the royal infirmary there are junkies in there and they get their methadone and whatever else (all free of charge of course) and then go off talking to their mates about all the stuff theyve got for selling (I saw some getting three big carrier bags full of something from the pharmacy and went out of the place talking about how much they'd get for it.)
The NHS is wasting our money. If they want to be druggies, then let them, but dont try to protect them from the consequences.

Methadone maintenence is what it says- it maintains the position. Over a period of time the dosage is reduced so eventually the addict is weaned off. However the figures in 2006 showed that only 4% of heroin addicts in scotland who were perscribed methadone, managed to become drug free nearly 3 years after begining treatment. Any other method that only had a 4% success rate would be scrapped. But because of the limited spaces on other treatment programmes which are far more succesful, methadone maintenence programmes are used. The idea behind it, is if you take away the withdrawl and craving symptoms from an addict you will be left with an addict who can give up. Wrong, the biggest factors in drug addiction are environment and psychological/emotio
nal problems. So all you are doing is removing the addicts coping mechanism for life (drugs) and throwing them back into the same social environment (area and people) with no coping mechanisms (due to psychological and emotional problems), a sure fire receipe for disaster. What a waste of money and resources, so stop kidding on the public that it is an effective strategy, its like putting an elastoplast over the mouth of an alcoholic.

Nobody is forced to take heroin though some of us do & get addicted.
I am a former heroin & have now been clean for 7yrs & I was on methadone for just over 14months .
The GPs surgery i attended strictly monitored the usage of it & was encouraged to reduce until i was completely free of methadone..
Heroin addicts will continue to use heroin on top of methadone because most GPs do not test them every week for other substances other than methadone as it is to costly..
Addicts know this & will abuse the system because they can..
Its all very well saying stop giving them methadone but then what happens is that burglaries go up, muggings etc..
Until a proper monitoring system is brought in the abuse will continue..
Getting off heroin is hard but it is not impossible, i have a great life now & thats because i had a GP who really cared instead of dishing out drugs..

Don't no enough about this subject but Im willing to bet if you asked all these addicted to heroin if they were offered the chance to go back in time to when they were first offered the drug, evry single one would have said no.So if you don't know the real cause and effect of a heroin addiction don't criticize or make smug remarks. And is it not worrying that huge numbers of under 10s are been prescribed drugs gp.s need to be more responsible

I know of two people who came off smack, but they couldn't handle it and threw themselves off multi stroey flats.
Was it because they saw the place they lived in for what it was (and still is for the large part) and realised that the place had nothing to offer them, was it because the place was so depressing and that is why they were out their faces on smack in the first place?
As said in previous posts, we have over 40 years of social damage to repair, if it can be repaired!
[bold]Who's up for the job?[/bold]
People make humour out of everything - I don't see why junkies, zombies or dead beats have to be given special status when they are no different from other dodgy people who probably walk by us every day in life!

Missing city..maybe as you point out these are just some of the reasons the turned to using heroin, but what are we to do? ..that if you want to see the end of all the problems caused by drugs, do we legalize it? have tougher sentences in the court ? as you say 40 years down the road and things are getting worse And is it not obvious to us all that there is not a single politician making any effort whatsoever to even attempt a solution to this depressing problem....

maybe all you so called people posting some snide remarks about drug addicts aren't educated enough to understand that it may happen to one of your own family in the future. Its time we hit the people who deal in drugs the hard way, with stiffer sentences not 3mths-6mths or a year but years behind bars as drug users and their relatives suffer years of missery

I grew up seein them in my face in Castlemilk back in the late 80's and sellin stuff round the doors like proper hawkers.
Like everybody else, I have no time for them, you would have to be a dumb parent and ignorant to the problem or just be a plain fud to allow any of your family to go down that road, a strong decent educated family wouldn't allow this to happen to any of their offspring - and if the case has arisen where this is the case, then I'm sure the offspring was dumped like sh1t on their shoes.
Sorry the education in the hardcore drugs department has been around for too long now for anybody to be ignorant to the damage it does - anybody that thinks otherwise is a waste of space and lots of taxpayers cash!

you think drug dealers walk up to poor innocent wee kids, hold them down and pump them full of smack?
or that they are blue eyed kids who dont know what they are doing?

every junkie knows exactly what they are getting into, and do it coz they think they are hard and they can handle it
i think this xmas eve we should have "national kick a junkie night" where revellers give a swift kick to every bit of AIDS junkie scum they see

Missing city...Once again I ask.. Whats the answer?maybe if something was done back then maybe things would be a lot different from what they are now. From what I've read those involved in the Carlton project,in the early years pointed out the dangers of introducing methadone as a method of reducing or curbing addiction but were undermined and eventually underfunded by others involved in drug addiction funding, mainly the Scottish health boards and others who thought they knew better than those who ran the Carlton project

Scotland has loads of uninhabited islands. Put them all on one and drop food in every month.
Any boat or plane which flies or sails too close without being authorised ... destroy them.
First time lock them on the island for a year, 2nd failed test 5 years, 3rd ....... lifetime.
The military can use the isaland for training purposes. Im sure the SBS and the Roayl Marines would welcome the training practice at gaurding the island.
I DO know the suffering that junkies cause to others, and everyone knows there is only one way to come off drugs ........ COLD TURKEY.
Add that to an automatic death sentence for smugglers and dealers and we MIGHT start winning the battle.

something to consider here is the fact that most if not all junkies are unemployed therefore do not have much cash,if the government were to increase their dole money to a reasonable amount ,say £280 per week then they would be happier in their life and would not be so depressed as to indulge in drugs

Stop wasting money on methadone. How many clues do the NHS need, to figure out it doesnt work?
I dont give a flying **** about junkies. Let them rot.[/quote] Its just survival of the fittest?

I bet their families care. I also cannot say hand on heart that despite the best upbringing i can give my kids and that although they are 16, 19 and 22 now that they will never in their lives use drugs. Unfortunately I dont have the powers of the crystal ball that some here seem to say that. As for saying anyone allows their kids to go down that route i am at a loss to understand that comment. No one allows their kids to do that but chit happens and parents cannot be with kids 24/7 and im not talking about young kids im talking about parents with kids or should i say young people. You can educate them to high heaven but you cannot always be there to ensure that they always go down the right road. They make their own choices in this world and in many cases its the parents and siblings who are left to mourn lost life and lost opportunities. Just my opinion for what its worth

can you imagine having an operation by some one on drugs? or going for a nice meal prepared by a junkie? being on a bus or a plane? it goes on and on, luckily i have never tried drugs as i like to be in control of myself and my surroundings.people who are addicted to drink and drugs you will find that they are very insecure and mostly selfish, that is why they have very low self esteem.

the parents or guardians of drug users should find out through the drug squad if the drug dogs could come for a visit to their home and sniff out the stash, if you let the family know the plan and that the detective could come by at any time, if it comes to light that this is the case, the owners of the home has proof that they are keeping things honest then THEY will not have their home taken from them.

This is why Glasgow has a lrage problem, same with most ex-working towns in the sh1ttish isles.

Holy Willie is the funniest poster in the world.
I'd like to hear more of his thoughts.
