AN Eighties revival festival is heading to Strathclyde Country Park this year in a bid to open up the event to a wider audience.
Organisers of Retrofest, which last year was held at Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, will confirm the venue change in the next few days, with tickets due to go on sale at the beginning of next month.
Strathclyde Country Park, where the first T in the Park was held, has been chosen because of its transport links and proximity to Glasgow.
Around 15,000 people flocked to Culzean Castle last year, but with the central belt location it is hoped numbers will soar.
Promoters are still to finalise the line-up for the event, which is likely to be held at the end of August.
The Eighties theme may also be expanded to include some late 1970s and early 1990s musical treats.
Highlights from last year included a shaven-headed Phil Oakey fronting Human League, Belinda Carlisle and Tony Hadley, who belted out a superb set of Spandau Ballet hits, and ended up-to-date with a rousing version of the Kaiser Chiefs' hit I Predict A Riot. He was joined on stage by Go West frontman Peter Cox and ABC's Martin Fry.
Scottish highlights included The Silencers and supergroup Fourgoodmen.
The average age of fans attending Retrofest was estimated at 38.
But this year there is a rival event, with Colours Festivals Ltd holding a Back To The 80s gig, which will be staged at Braehead on May 31.
The 10-hour musical extravaganza will feature Human League, Tony Hadley, Curiosity Killed The Cat, Go West, Heaven 17, Limahl, Toyah,
Hipsway and Fourgoodmen.
The action will take place from 2pm to midnight on the waterfront at Braehead, with Real Radio hosting a roller disco, outdoor 80s karaoke tent and fairground rides.
