£8000 plea to fly girl in coma home

by Jonathan Paisley

RELATIVES of a Scots snowboarder stranded in France after a serious accident have launched an appeal for £8000 to bring her home.

Corrine Barrons, 33, from Kilsyth, was left in a coma after smashing her head on the ski slopes of Meribel two weeks ago.

She faces up to a year of rehab to overcome bleeding on the brain - but was not fully insured.

Her sister Anne Lowe, 27, hopes to raise the cash to fly her back to Scotland by air ambulance.

Corrine, a former cafe owner in Kilsyth, had been working in France during the ski season and had taken to the slopes on a day off when tragedy struck on March 4.

Anne said: "She tried to do a jump and landed on her head.

"She had bleeding and bruising on her brain and had to be airlifted off the mountain by helicopter.

"We don't want her out there on her own for all that time."

Charter flight firm Mediavation has offered to fly Corrine by air ambulance from Grenoble to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital's specialist head injury unit for the discount price of £8000 after an appeal from the family.

The firm helped stricken Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond after his 300mph crash in 2006.

Anne added: "We are trying to do the best we can and bring her home but we just don't have that kind of money lying around.

"It would mean everything to bring her back."

It's understood Corrine was put in a chemically-induced coma following the accident and is now conscious.

Martin Eede, a director of Mediavation, said: "We were approached by Corinne's sister and we were so touched by her story we said we'd transfer Corinne back."
