BIG-HEARTED bikers became real-life Easter bunnies when they visited Scotland's biggest children's hospital.

Around 7000 men and women roared into the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill, Glasgow, to hand deliver thousands of chocolate eggs.

Some even swapped their leathers for bunny costumes for a trip round the city yesterday, which started at the SECC.

Hundreds of egg-cited youngsters, alongside their parents and staff, cheered the easy riders home and were rewarded when the bikers handed them their Easter treats.

Bill Hill, 54, of Glasgow, was one of the thousands taking part, along with his partner Susan Gourlay, 46.

He said: "I do it every year and this was the best one yet. The weather was fantastic, especially after the bad reports, and it was great fun. I loved seeing the kids faces when we gave them their eggs."

Stuart Regan, of the Motorcycle Action Group which organises the annual Easter Egg Run, said: "All the bikers absolutely love it. The weather held off, which was a relief and it was fantastic to have some sunshine.

"All of the kids were really excited, which made it all worthwhile."

Last year's event raised £30,000 but organisers are hopeful of more this year.

A kind-hearted and noble jesture from sometimes maligned road users - BUT THINK OF THE POLLUTION from ALL THOSEE BIKES in the one place the one time. So much for Glasgow's current 'cut the fumes' advertising!!!

Andrew tephen, Maybe a thunder storm will clear away that pollution. Better still, think I'll complain. Spoiling the weans Easter, shame on you.

Good point Andrew I think that if the SNP were serious about climate change they would have come to some amicable agreement between the hospital and the bikers. But usual all words from that mob.

Top class show guys, gals & all those participating!

The horns blasting, headlights on full beam & atmosphere was red hot! All these guys ( & gals) in their sexy leather was just too much!

Hope the final total raised excels last years £30,000. And everyone involved had a great day!

Congratulations & thanks to all of those involved!

Three cheers to all the hard work M.A.G. (The Motorcycle Action Group.) have done to raise £30,000+ last year, for sick kids - hopefully more this year.

Oh, give me strength. Next we'll have complaints about the packaging the egg came in. Then there will be complaints about the paper we use up reading about it. Or the electricity we use up viewing it online.

Not meaning to be flippant as I do recycle and believe in not wasting resources but thats a different arguement to not using resources.

There's already been an ice age and I've never seen any historical artifacts of cavemen on motorbikes so maybe pollution isnt the main cause of our climate change. Maybe its just the fact that thats what life is about. Change.

Yes, EVERYONE can recycle packing/newspapers (I do too!!) but just where does one recycle the pollution (from *noise as well as *fumes)?
I still LAUD the nature of the event but personally witnessed/suffered the 'polluting' *aftermath on Dumbarton Road!

Andrew Stephen - gie yersel peace: a once a year garthering of like minded bikers doing a good turn will not make the glaciers melt any quicker. Glasgow had many years as a heavily industrialised city, it was full of homes with coal fires, had steel works, shipbuilding, heavy engineering, a busy working river- THAT was pollution and we're still here. I was also in Dumbarton Rd during the run but have been there previously when the bus and car fumes have been worse. Get a grip!

Andrew, away & buy yourself some ear plugs - or preferably move out to a shack in the middle of no where! Some folk are never happy!

Personally the engines revving, backfiring & horns sounding was all part of the lively and upbeat atmosphere.

The pollution people should worry about is when the queues of stationary traffic along Dumbarton road sit & emit their fumes - buses, lorries and vans to boot.

Thats at least where motorbikes have the upperhand - at least they can overtake all the queuing traffic & ride off into the sunset!

So - I take it you didn't donate to the Motorcycle Action Groups funds either then ?

Away & moan somewhere else, ya old codger!

Some people just love to get on our backs, complaining about the noise, pollution, bad image etc.
I am a biker of many years, who came from the good part of the West End of Glasgow.
I am a professional person and not some reprobate who terrorises old ladies.
Why do people have to regard bikers as scum?
We step out on a Sunday (maybe this is a problem for some of the bible thumpers out there) and do a good deed for the poor kids suffering in all manners.
Our day out has again raised thousands of pounds for Yorkhill, as well as putting a smile on many a kids face.
Who can put us down for that?
There's no catch. It was for the kids!

it was a great day for bikers and kids and the do gooders that always want to rubbish the people with big hearts should grow up and find something else to moan about."how much do they give to help the less fortunate?" and bikes are less polluting than the cars and help keep down congestion on our roads 1day a year to help bring a smile to even one kids face is all worth it.

Andrew, get a grip, that was a fraction of the pollution ever experienced on a busy day in Glasgow, (after all, I would warrant more than 8,000 cars pass through the city every day..) And besides if they were not all in Glasgow doing something good for the children (obviously you have never had cause to use any of the local hospital facilities!), we would all have been out elsewhere, producing a mere fraction of the pollution caused by cars. So no matter how much you malign the biker communities, who do more for UK charities than ANY other faction. We will always be the more environmentally and congestion friendly mode of transport.

Yes I am proud to have been a part of it.

Are youse serious? Therse are kind-hearted people taking a day to deliver easter eggs to sick kids. There's not an environmental aspect to this (and I'm usually one of the first to bang on people using cars rather than public transport)!!!

Granted it's a bit noisy. I used to live in a flat along Argyle Street and when the Easter rally went past it was noisy and smelly (tell me, why do Harleys have to be so loud?) but only a true curmudgeon would complain.

Roll on April 12th next year and we get to do it all again.
