Those results doesn't surprise me one bit. The junction at Union/Jamaica/Argyle Streets is an absolute disgrace. In fact, the whole City Centre layout is a shambles.
For the sheer volume of traffic wishing to continue down Union Street, straight through the junction into Jamaica Street is unbelieveable. Union Street itself is a three lane road, despite this, only the centre lane permits an 'ahead only' manoevre.
Also, of the vehicles wishing to turn right at the foot of Union Street into Argyle St (Central Bridge), a high percentage of them do not realise that vehicles coming from Jamaica St Bus, Taxi, Cycle lane have priority over them as they are turning left out of the bus lane.
My advice to the council would be to take that daft concrete block away which lies in the middle of that junction, and replace it with a more sensible TWO lanes down Union Street for continuing straight ahead into Jamaica Street. That would make the congestion slightly more bearable!
Oh, and how did that giant new car park in Jamaica Street get the go-ahead?

i think most of these accidents are caused by colour blind drives who never see the lights change to red and carry on driving.

What are the chances that most of these are blind-drunk pedestrians who walk into the road without looking and then try to blame those terrible car drivers?

Maybe if people stopped playing "frogger" with traffic when the red man is on, they might not get knocked down.Jaywalking fines should be introduced and as usual some of the comments on this site seem to think it is all the drivers fault.Jim, i did not see anything about taxis being the main offender.

I cross the Argyle St / Hope St. junction just by Central Station every day - and drivers' interpretation of red light is "five more vehicles allowed through". Bus drivers are particularly bad, but all drivers are guilty.
The rush-hour norm is for vehicles to still be crossing as the green man is lit, with the attitude of "I've crossed the line, therefore I'm entitled to carry on regardless". Often the pedestrian crossing phase has ended whilst vehicles are still passing.
Red-light cameras would be a big bonus on these busy city centre junctions.

Both drivers and pedestrians are to blame. I see drivers going through the red lights as commented above but also people who have the blinkers on and cannot tell red from green with the "he won't hit me" attitude. Perhaps education and a good boot up the backside for all parties would help along with a hit in the pocket for the worst offenders.

Bring in red light cameras and 3 points for blocking the crossing. That might stop motorists actions and get more consideration for pedestrians. As a driver in the city, some people think they are superheroes and expect buses, taxis, trucks to slam the brakes on even if they have a green light.

[bold]pedestrians always have the right of way....if they are crossing please just be patient, dont make them a patient![/bold]
how stupid are SOME pedestrians though? How many 'every day accidents' are folk that get knocked down walking [bold]on the pavements[/bold] ? dooh roads are for cars and buses , that is generally what highway code tells ye, look left and right cross at crossings when the green man advises this ,or hold back.
and pls dont try and run across a junction with a kebab in yer arm and a 10 pints of beer in yer belly, as there is a big probability you willnae get there![bold] so, dont drink and drive and dont walk and eat![/bold]
and if you run across on a red man , and run in front of oncoming traffic with no thought for the poor driver, with no legitamite reason ye wont win the headlight stare out!
ie if you are of sound mind, an adult, not extremely slow elderly, not an impulsive child, blind, infirm with sticks or wheelchair, or subjected to the fate of a dangerous driver , you probably will not (hopefully) ever be another statistic.
boys and girls and everyone, learn your green cross code. and bear in mind crossroads have alternating rights of way for traffic. the opposite lighst may show red and one set may show green, please wait! teach your kids a good example and no running ,and lots of looking and hand holding of adults goes a long way for safety.
in a very rare turn of events a vehicle mounts a kerb on turning, stand well back at corners when buses are travelating, bear in mind you are smaller, and more vulnerable than a bus!
and in some cases, in someones blind spot! take care everyone

this report smarts of a little bias and cannot be considered strictly accurate as it refers to injury to pedestrians struck by vehicles, where are the damaging facts on vehicles being struck by pedestrians

They run in front of a bus and not realising that a car or myself is on the inside lane, covered by the bus. So there is every chance they are getting hit by the vehicle on the inside!!
Also, when will the public STOP crossing the roads with mobile phones pinned to their ears....I have just missed several incidents, AGAIN due to me knowing what the public is like and taking extra precaution to avoid accidents....ONLY JUST!!!
Another problem is iPods, when I toot the horn if someone is about to cross the road illegally, they dont hear a thing and I have to hit the brakes....because and iPod or mobile is pinned to there ears.
FINE Jay walkers like they do in the USA!!!
Also, it goes to show that the general traffic management system in the city is a disgrace. It shows that having lights everywhere doesn't improve traffic flow or safety. TOO MUCH STREET FURNITURE IN MY OPINION!!! Clear this cluster at junctions, so we might have less confusion on what road signs to pay attention too and more time looking out for potential hazards ie...PEOPLE!!!
Why the council has spent thousands putting several sets of pedestrian crossing lights less than 100 yards away from each other is beyond me.....are we that bloody lazy we need so many lights. Can we not walk the 100 yards to the ONE set!!
WE CREATE OUR OWN PROBLEMS IN THIS CITY!!!

agree with the comment about Jay Walkers
I have driven in dozens of cities and Canada & The U.S.A.
and Glasgow Pedestrians are the worst I have ever seen
On the spot fines would sort some of them out.It would also help reduce the Council Tax!

what were the road rules when you were a child again?...look left then right then left again, if the road is clear walk across when you see the little green man, and for drivers its...do not speed in a busy area, be prepared to stop and obey the lights, red for stop, amber to be cautious, green for go ,make sure the road is clear, then proceed, also look out for old folk and children, as they are a bit slower.....and be COUTEOUS...remember speed kills.

Yeah, and don't continue typing your text message as you wander out onto the road! If I drive and type a text message (and hit someone) I get jailed. The same should apply if you are a pedestrian and you walk into my car because you were texting.

Whats wrong with the buses going out of howard street and heading south onto clyde street then up oswald street? then pedestrians would only have to keep their eye on traffic flow from one direction.
