Sensationalist headlines. However, scratch the surface and you get the true story......of incompetence by local councils.
Mr Maxwell said: "I know local authorities have put considerable effort into improving the delivery of the scheme over the past year and we can see that this is now paying off.
Yes, Mr Maxwell is correct because as it was widely reported at the time. The FACT of the matter was it was IMPOSSIBLE for people to register as the computer systems were DOWN for months on end and the problems STILL have not been sorted out. That is because it was rushed through by the Scottish Executive and the system to deal with it couldn't be created and tested in time. It went live and FAILED.
The Herald ran the story under the headline 'Landlord registration scheme failures blamed on computers'. This, along with the fact that there was not enough effort by the councils to educate people that this particular piece of legislation had been passed, meant that small landlords with one or two property's weren't completely aware that had to sign up.

Is this a surprise? Why would an irresponsible landlord sign up? So what now?

I completely agree. This scheme is here to make the executive and local council(s) money and nothing else.
It's utter nonsense to suggest it's rooting out rogue landlord's.
NO CHECKS are being carried out on the properties themselves. Councils up and down the country are NOT asking for any relevant information. The ONLY thing I can establish that they are checking is that you have no criminal convictions, and therefore are a 'fit and proper person'.
The REAL HEADLINE STORY here and which I hope GRAEME MURRAY picks up on is the fact the public are being MISLEAD.
Councils are NOT asking for or checking for valid CORGI Gas Safety Certificates
Councils are NOT asking for or checking for valid PAT testing certificates
Councils are NOT asking for or checking that furniture and furnishings are flame resistant and meet fire regulations
Councils are NOT asking for or checking for the presence of Carbon monoxide detectors
Councils are NOT asking for or checking for the presence of Carbon monoxide detectors smoke alarms
It begs the question, what is the point??

Forgot to mention, an accountant friend told me this was been driven by the Inland revenue.
It's a smoke screen for the revenue to find out who owns what.
He assumes a can of worms is being opened and tax returns shall be checked to see if income has been declared historically.

its the same sort who ask ...taxes? whats em fings?aslam has been exposed as an undesirable who thinks he is above the law and should have been taken to court for puting poor people in danger by not attending to repairs in all his flats (that is only one rogue landlord we know of), maybe the rogue landlords do not understand the laws or maybe cannot read english (no EXCUSE), laws must be adhered to no matter what nationality.

Interesting how many of the stories we can comment on today – wonder why we cannot comment on the fat dog from Paisley, sorry the extra skinny dog from Paisley left to starve whilst the owner (what a smasher) was left to stuff her face with pies.
Strangely the article does not mention her job; another parasite? At least her boyfriend/personal trainer could find his best baseball cap for the court appearance.
Would anyone really worry, if shortly after the vet put the dog down, he gave fatty Arbuckle a large dose of ketamine? Would the world stop turning?

And whilst I’m on my soapbox – the chap who assaulted his GP ‘to the danger of her life by stabbing her repeatedly on the body and attempting to stab her in the face’ the court concluded that even though "he was able to function at some level. He made his way to the surgery, having armed himself with a knife”. He was acquitted on the grounds that he was insane.
On that logic any ned that carries a knife into the town and stabs some innocent bystander can always plead “am pure mental by the way” and get off with a few years in a cosy hospital.
Pity the guy never had Harold Shipman as his GP.

The problem is that no one fears the punishment that our courts prescribe as a result they do what they want and then stick two fingers up at us all.

Why would the Slovakian family of 11 come to Glasgow in the first place? The weather? Cheap macaroon bars? The chance to meet Chick Young? Work? None of these fanciful answers I'm afraid. The reason is a free house (tough luck if the cockroaches got there first) and some nice dole money. Plus a bit of thieving along the way.
Look at the comments of Rome's new mayor - first policy is to get rid of the 'parasites' and send them back to Romania.

How would you be able to find out if your landlord was registered? I would sure like to find out about mine.. and funnily enough I'm not a Slovakian gypsy with 10 kids either..

She deserves to be starved the way that poor wee dog did. Let her lick the condensation off the window!

wii the times run a story and let the people know that mr's harvey did not show up at court against mr.aslam.
then phones him and asked to stay in the so called midding of a house.
times a hope you did not pay her to much for the story.

Sorry to tell you Sid, when the dog was found, it was thought to have been dead for ten days.
The dog didn’t even have the services of a vet to end its misery. It died a horrible, agonizing death.
