Kids face test at police disco

TEENAGERS are to be searched and breathalysed before being allowed into a disco organised by the police.

Anyone who fails the breath test will be taken home immediately by officers who say they want to create a safe and fun haven for youngsters in the Larkhall area of South Lanarkshire.

The Blue Light Disco will be held at the local leisure centre on Friday, May 30. It's for young people aged 12 to 18 in the town and neighbouring villages of Ashgill, Netherburn and Stonehouse.

Community policeman David Lang said similar discos have been held elsewhere and have helped curb youth disorder. He added: "It provides somewhere for our youngsters to go, meet up with friends and people from other areas in a safe and friendly setting."
