At least P.E. teachers are relatively fit & I would hope active. . .
The Government, Scottish Parliament, and G.C.C's aims for preventing childhood obesity are clearly falling far short of their aims.
Buy passing the buck amongst each other they are effectively playing with the quality of our childrens lives.
Those with the money in high political careers will no doubt send their offspring to private, and fee paying schooling.
Where does that leave the lower income majority who have to settle for Government run - publically funded schools ?
Don't they deserve the same high quality of schooling as the wealthy, more rich private school pupils ? We can't all be blessed with the ability to have master degrees and high payed salaries. Otherwise where would alot of the Army recruits go ?
I readily see groups of school children using Scotstoun Leisure Centre, and almost a quarter of the kids look to be plump, overweight, or overfed on junk food.
Its not just P.E. teachers - parents have a role to play here too, and as soon as they are given the help and support - not criticism and scorn, maybe Gordon Browns, Alex Salmond & Wendy Alexanders roles would be less uncertain.

Stop killing people in Iraq and Afghanistan and fund the P.E. teachers.Common sense really.Or maybe ask the EU for some of our money back to pay the teachers wages.

read the article felt sorry for the PE teachers.
and thought how much fun sport is crackin fun, excellent pic of spirited kids climbing up ropes with big smiles, I think it is terrible we need to be pc correct, because fo saddos out there. We always have to give signed permission (as parents) to print images of our weans , as a lot of mums and dads worry about their kids in pe kit being some sort of enticement to one of those paedo types.
It is a sick society we live in indeed, when you see school websites, as my kids school censor all the pics all kids have their backs to camera and never identifiable on school trips etc. (and never in swimming attire), only pictured in outdoor clothing/pursuits. or class pics with uniform on.
Weans should be out there playing and burning off energy and enjoying sport , seeing their grins and wee rosy cheeks must be a worthwhile career path.
We are a nation of fatties its true
Glasgow has some of the fattest children in Europe and experts predict the problem will get worse
teach them good habits and why not, get fit with your kids!? (I am on a get fit walk round more parks, explore more places, cycle, gently jog and take up salsa mission to show my kids a good example!)

If you want to cover political correctness, the terrible thing that has come out of our politicians, and media spin is the way in which our kids can't even play un-supervised in playgrounds, without teachers in high visability jackets, or the equivalent.
The kids playing today, are in no more danger from paedophiles and such like than they were in the past - yes mobile phones have cameras on them, yes kids safety is paramount, but - why not trust the community and those who live nearby schools.
Why not have Neighbourhood Watches surrounding schools, and use the eyes and ears of the community - not such obvious visable presence of teachers - which does little for the kids self confidence, if their watched so closely.
Teach some of the (i.e.) p7 kids the skills of looking out for their younger peers, and give them a bit more credit.

As for the shirtage of jobs for PE teachers, provision must be made for their crucial role, and measures taken to ensure our kids get the same - if not better quality education, physical as well as emotional./mental stimulation.
The curriculum is in need of serious re-booting and changes must be made - as the need for our children to learn about areas like: community safety, pride, and care for one another is the key.
Also, if they were shown more graphic images of what will happen if they abuse their body with what they put in it - cigarerettes, alcohol and too much of the wrong food/drinks, maybe then they'ed take more care of themselves.

I bloody hated PE made to tell the truth, pointless and boring, made to do as instructed, no fun just pain, standing in the rain and frost ,and panting like an @r$ehole and run cross country like a form of torture, until you thought your lungs would burst open and your legs went like jelly.
Scabby cold showers that no one liked using, feeling fat and self conscious in communal changing rooms. I wasnt built for speed, Id rather have done art or english as jump around boobs jiggling sorely in bra, and some smelly fat birds pits to whiff at netball when she reached up..urghh the pain the memories.
and if you said 'miss am in pain heavy period here ,don't wish to bleed to death jogging round the circuit...so can i sit this one out?' it was 'don't be so bloody lazy -anyway, this takes the pain away'
Yeah your lungs exploding with over exertion and guts chundering is nicer than being doubled up with a hot water bottle !
pray tell me, todays kids don't have this torture and they are more relaxed and pace the weans out!

Its not just PE teachers. Due to (partly) freezing council taxes throughout Scotland authorities are making "efficiency savings" (read as budget cuts), there are hardly any vacancies for new teachers this year. I am glad I am not just starting my teaching career this year. And what will happen when all the 50+ teachers retire ?
