Heat to blame for rail chaos

SUNNY weather in Glasgow caused a commuter headache last night when a train track circuit overheated.

The technology failed just outside Glasgow Central Station at about 3pm, causing delays and cancellations of all trains using platforms one to six.

Services to East Kilbride, Newton, Kilmarnock and Barrhead, as well as the West Coast Main Line were all affected, resulting in a major build-up of passengers in the station.

One delayed commuter described the station as "mobbed". And although services were restored after 4.15pm, First ScotRail admitted it caused knock-on delays at peak travel time.

Services to Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Paisley were not affected.

Network Rail, who is responsible for the tracks, said the circuit is a common piece of technology and was quite quickly replaced.

A spokesman added: "It overheated in the sun. It doesn't happen often in Scotland."

Too warm, too cold, too wet, too windy... it's a miracle our trains ever get going.

Never mind the SPT Fastlink service through Glasgow Harbour, or the new Southern General Superhospital.

How about we see proper investment in ensuring Glasgows railway infrastructure is designed to last, not tracks which melt in the heat, which is only set to get hotter as the summer progresses.

Glasgow - we really know how to make a balls of our transport infrastructure dont we.

If it isn't SPT with its Subway sob stories,
its First Scotrail with its track record which clearly speaks for itself, literally!

Meanwhile back at the ranch, the pathetic SPT advertise this:

/subway_poet.html

Instead of running the Subway properly, i.e. late night and Sunday after 6pm and actually bringing forward concrete plans to extend the system citywide they think up this rubbish.

Glasgow, the city that is going backwards and shrinking. What on earth would the old Corporation have made of this amatuerishness and constant pishtaking by the useless SPT?

Aye John,

What on earth indeedy!

How far can SPT sink, apart from the depths of Glasgows decrepit Subway - LOL ;-)

Maybe thats why so many Subways staff, and management are so out of touch.
You know the saying "Out of sight, out of mind!"

This latest ad on SPT's website tells folk all they need to know. Hardly the way forwards for SPT. How about a proper Public Relations post, to get some good publicity under its belt ?
