This is yet further evidence of the inability of Glasgow City Council, and its illegitimate offspring GHA, to effectively manage our built environment. At a time when all over Europe housing bodies are reinvesting and redeveloping high-rise accommodation, and private developers are building them in abundance on the Clyde, the council is blowing them up at huge expense to taxpayers.

As I suspect you well know, there is little comparison to be drawn between "tower blocks" like this one and the modern, high-quality blocks at Glasgow Harbour. No-one wanted to live there, so what's the point in keeping it? The council/GHA HAS learned from its past mistake, and instead of forcing people to live in an unsuitable block it has torn it down and done something different.
Still, don't feel you have to let the facts get in the way of your boring daily anti-Council rant. Even when the Council isn't involved you still manage to drag them in. Have you any better ideas of your own? No, thought not. Have you thought of actually doing anything constructive instead of slagging everything off? No?
If everything's so rotten about Glasgow why not go and live somewhere more acceptable to you? Lots of people seem quite happy to live/work here, and I'm sure your departure wouold only make the city more attractive.
Hope you're off taking your medication now.

So, basically what your saying Sydney is even though people didn't want to live in these flats they shouldn't have been given the option of moving out because even if the council dosen't know whats good for them Sydney Meriweather does. So there.

Unfortunately not Scottie-boy... I was, but I had to resort to the old medication to stop me laughing at your funny spiel: would that be the [bold]high-quality blocks[/bold] that crumbled at the first sniff of a strong wind, or would that be the [bold]high-quality blocks[/bold] that can't be sold even at auction with their prices slashed?

perhaps Sydney you may wish to speak to the people involved- shocking that highrises buildings which people are weanting to escape may be replaced with houses where their children may have gardens! what next! There is a place to refurb some highrises and some are being given so, but Glasgow is littered with dozens that really need to come down and be replaced with housing people want to live in- kinda sad you cant see any good because you cant see past your anti gcc/gha agenda.

got a wee joke to eaze the tension... these 2 salesmen were doing their rounds away up in the highlands and it came down bucketing rain, so they went to a bed &breakfast to book in for the night but full up, so the landlord said "you can sleep in a room that has been empty for a while...they say its haunted" as they were very tired they both said it would do... so up they went and as the lights were put out there was a scarey voice, very sinister saying " i am goanny get ye... and i'm goanny eat ye, by this time they were really scared, then the voice stopped for a while then started up again, they went in the cupboard for their coats and there.......wait for, wait for it .....was a wee boy sitting picking his nose!

Another wee joke Trench ...
There was a magician on a cruise ship, and he was really good. He was performing the highlight of his show when a parrot walked onstage and squaked,"its in his sleeve!"
The magician chased the bird away.
The next day the magician was performing his highlight again(in front of a smaller audience)when the parrot walked onstage and declared,"its in his pocket!"
The next day,as he was performing his highlight,he saw the parrot in the crowd, but before the parrot could ruin the magic trick, the boat crashed into a rock and sank.
The magician was lucky enough to find a board to hang onto,on the other end of the board was the parrot.
They stared at each other for three full days, neither of them saying anything, when suddenly the parrot said,"I give up,what"d you do with the ship?"

there was a show on about the new tower's on the clyde, murial gray hosted it and the designer stated that the flat's on the waterfront had a 60 year life expectancy, the same as some of the gha tower's dundasvale's last tower block is 1975 vintage, and these block's cost over 5 million per block to refurbish, looking forward to seeing the stirlingfauld and norfolk court multis gone and reinstating the original grid plan, then crossrail at the new gorbals x station. tower blocks have there place and some fall!
