So [bold]we pay[/bold] for the maintenance of the park infrastructure, [bold]we pay[/bold] for the maintenance of the parking facilities, [bold]we pay[/bold] for the toilets, etc. and a struggling English leisure company just waltzes in with the intent of making a profit off of Glasgow taxpayers?
This is classic New Labour commercial enterprise: pass the profits on to some favoured private company and let the local taxpayer foot the bill... [bold]Thatcher and her mob couldn't have done a better job of exploiting the people of Glasgow than Purcell and his New Labour cronies.[/bold]

[quote]A council spokeswoman said: "A full and detailed assessment of the transport implications, together with the anticipated increase in vehicles, was carried out. [/quote]
That has been proved to be a false and misleading assertion.
Sydney - GoApe is hardly a "struggling" company. They are making an absolute fortune from publicly owned landm by charging extortionate prices and not having to put provide any kind of essential facilities whatsover, such as toilets or car parks. Not to mention the miserly sums that they provide in rental.

[quote]"With regard to the National Trust, the Council is considering the extent of its obligations in terms of its title to Pollok Park."[/quote]
Are they not bit late in the day for that? Should they not have considered it [bold]before[/bold] they invited Go Ape to set up in Pollok Park and certainly [bold]long[/bold] before they granted planning permission?

Sorry, I meant that they were struggling in the sense that - after they had spent £20,000 on PR and were rejected in England by the good people of Essex at Thorndon Country Park - they were struggling to get dummies daft enough to defile their country park for a few shillings.

THose who have a short memory should be reminded tha it was only back in April that this article ( as below) provoked 100 comments, such was the strength of feeling.
[bold]If Botanics club plan was kicked out then Go Ape should be too

The two issues may have completely different effects on their environments, but the way in which the public were consulted so pathetically were exactly the same.
I just hope that those from the[bold] "Save Our Botanics"[/bold] Campaign will still feel strongly enough to continue fighting for our "Dear Green Space" accross our city, and not just within their own catchment/locality.
Finally, as the council website stated:
[italic]"Britain's and Europe's Best Park Awards Pollok Country Park has been voted the Best Park in Britain 2007, and Europe's Best Park 2008.
This adds to a clutch of accolades the City’s parks have already attracted including the Botanic Gardens winning best park, in Scotland in 2006, and Auchinlea the Scottish Best Park Award in 2005."[/italic]
So, with so many awards surely the City council cannot still want to add to it ?
As the saying goes [italic]"If It Aint Broken, Don't Fix It!"[/italic]

A curling rink bult in the 1800s is ok because that has some ill-defined position called 'heritage', but imagine the stooshie if someone tried to build one now...
