GLASGOW'S all-girl roller derby team members are licking their wounds after their first home match.
They were beaten 41-104 by an international select squad from Canada in a match entitled the Irn Bruisers Brawl.
The hard-hitting sport has a reputation for full-contact battling. So a broken finger, dislocated shoulder, rink rash and fishnet burns were all par for the course in this match.
We have an exclusive video of the match, which was watched by around 250 people at the Arc sports complex at Caledonian University.
Team spokeswoman Scarlet Smith said: "The reaction we got from the audience was amazing. There were quite a few people who had no idea what roller derby was and were just stunned by it. They can't wait to see our next one."
The Glasgow Rollergirls team is made up of women aged 18-45 drawn from all over the city, and includes a doctor, teacher, truck driver, and fitness instructor. The sport sees two teams race around a circuit on quad skates, aiming to stop the opposing team from scoring points - while they rack up as many as they can.
Although this was their third defeat in three games, the girls can at least celebrate clinching sponsorship deals with kiltmakers Slanj, Rockin' Johnny T-shirts and Everglides skates.
