A GRIEVING widow has thanked Evening Times readers after messages of support poured in following her husband's death.

Lindsay Irvine, whose husband John died last week from the auto-immune disease Wegener's Granulomatosis, has been touched by the comments from across Glasgow and the world.

On Tuesday we told how John, 32, who had been a patient at the Marie Curie Hospice in Springburn, had died peacefully at home in Kirkintilloch from the disease, which destroyed his lungs.

Since then, messages of support from around the world have been posted on the Evening Times website.

Richard Davis, from Vienna, Austria, said: "My thoughts are with you Lindsay. John's journey has ended, but yours continues."

Another, from ScottishRose in America, said: "Very, very sad.He was a brave man."

Glamkitty, from Glasgow, wrote: "Lindsay must be heartbroken, they have been incredibly brave in the face of such an awful situation."

Lindsay, 31, was astonished at the moving messages. She said: "The comments are amazing. It has been wonderful."

And she added her own message: "We took each day at a time and were thankful when John woke up and lived another day.

"I am very grateful to Marie Curie for all its support. If anyone is ever in this situation, never be scared and always keep smiling like John did."

John's funeral was at Daldowie Crematorium. Mourners wore bright colours for a "celebration of his life".

Lindsay added: "It was a wonderful day, John would have been so proud."

I am 82 and was diagnosed with wegener's in 1996. I feel I was dx'd soon enough not to have too many problems. I do feel for Lindsay and her family, may God strengthen you in your loss. He was strickened at such a young age and it just doesn't seem fair but God seems to have other plans.
