Posted by: bluey, glasgow on 4:02pm Mon 21 Jul 08 By my reckoning, at least 10 towerblocks have been demolished in recent months across Glasgow and Paisley, with a similar number earmarked for demolition over the next few years. This potentially displaces many thousands of social housing tenants. So is the number of social housing tenants shrinking so less need for housing or has there been new builds to house those displaced? Someone put me out of my misery why on the one hand there seems to be a shortage of affordable or social housing and why on the other, huge quantities of accommodation (okay not the most popular type) have been dynamited? Posted by: alexparade, Glasgow on 8:03pm Mon 21 Jul 08 Nobody wants to live in these flats. Strange, I always quite fancied living in an apartment block like in USTV show Friends. However high-rise flats don't suit single parents and the elderly, who make up most of the 'social housing' list. Truth is they are used now almost exclusively to house junkies and refugees. And yet, the views from these flats must have been breathtaking..
