THE spectacular Edinburgh Military Tattoo will be launched tonight - drawing thousands of visitors from Scotland and around the world.

The annual outdoor event, set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, features pipes and drums, massed military bands, display teams, dancers and acts from across the globe.

More than 1000 international performers from the Far East, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the US and UK, combined with the very best of modern production technology, fireworks and theatrical special effects, are set to feature in the Tattoo, which celebrates The Queen's diamond wedding anniversary.

The event runs until August 23.
