Rock stars to ride by rickshaw

by Graeme Murray

Rock stars will swap luxury limos for rickshaws at a Scots music festival.

Organisers of the Hydro Connect Festival will use the pedal-driven vehicles to transport artists such as Franz Ferdinand, Paolo Nutini and Amy MacDonald between stages at the event at Inveraray Castle at the end of the month.

Music fans will also be able catch a lift between stages, giving their weary legs a rest between catching bands such as local indie starlets Glasvegas, Iceland's Sigur Ros and Welsh acts Duffy and Manic Street Preachers.

A spokeswoman for promoters DF concerts said: "The festival sponsor Scottish Hydro Electric is paying for rickshaws to be used across the site.

"These will be used backstage and will also be available for the festival-goers to grab a lift quickly after seeing one band to get to another.

"The idea of using these is to make everything on site as green as possible so there will be no cars used backstage."

The three-day festival takes place from August 29 to 31. See www.connectmusicfestival.com
