No doubt this move will be seen in Manchester as an opportunity to punish Glasgow for the UEFA Cup invasion!

Good, because Glasgow Airport couldn't get any worse. The amount of flights from Glasgow to destinations abroad is pathetic. And as for killing of "Glasgow" Prestwick, by all means go ahead.

You are so insightful and have folied their plan. They'll be sitting down south complaining about how they would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for that pesky sydney meriwether. Enjoy your scooby snack, you've deserved it.

Quote - "We know the people who run Glasgow Airport and the staff and they are fantastically committed."
I know the staff are loyal and very committed, the issue is how loyal and committed is he to them ?
This is the same company that has slashed wages and to quote a union official in the 2000 industial action "Industrial relations are at an all-time low".
The loyal staff at Glasgow have served the public well (even if those in charge have not) they deserve a respected employer who will offer secure long term employment and not some more money grabbing share holders, in to asset strip the Airport and pay the minimum wage to those who serve and protect the public, without long term negotiated guarantees on pay and conditions if sold, the Airport could be entering a long period of poor relations, have a search of the Manchester Evening news, where you will find many stories of slashed wages and strike action.

I hope all those crying out for the sale will not be left with egg on their faces, if the Airport is sold and future investment dries up.
I appreciate that the public wants clean Airports, cheaper flights and more routes from Scotland (we all do) but we must ensure that the safety and security of the Airport is not compromised, by cutting back on staff, training, equipment and salary's.

Quote: "The Manchester group also operates East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside Airports."
Whats to stop MAG from asset stripping Glasgow Airport and
Humberside airports main business is from the Charter Market, East Midlands Airport is now predominently a hub for Low Cost Airlines and Charter Airlines. Manchester Airport however has all the juicy business, with 22,122,625 (approx) passengers in 2007, and manchester airport also being the world freight terminal.
Glasgow Airport may have its long haul flights diverted to Manchester, and having Glasgow downgraded to a low cost hub, with shuttles down to manchester.
Best thing to do is close Glasgow Airport AND Edinburgh Airport and relocate it to a central location accessible to everyone - say Cumbernauld for example. Excellent road links, excellent bus links, and rail links, no need to spent taxpayers money on airport rail links and tram links.

If MAG wish to buy Glasgow or Edinburgh are we not in danger of just moving the monopoly from one company to another? As for building another airport from scratch who is going to foot the bill forthat one. To build an international airport from scratch would cost many billions!!

to be honest i don't care who owns it. As long as we get more direct routes. For example flying to Oslo and countless others you have to fly to Heathrow, Manchester, Amsterdam or Paris. Then come all the way back up again. How stupid is that!!! Carbon footprint is huge

Prestwick have just lost their two main freght carriers which account for over 20% of their income , when Glasgow is sold it will sound the death knell of Prestwick , their is also a lot of seriously worried managers at Gla who have been promoted recently not through ability but by being lackies , role on the takeover it il be the best thing to happen to this airport and the sooner all the rotten apples are thrown out the barrel the better

Oh what a wonderful idea - let Manchester Airport buy Glasgow Airport and then the management - which will be in Manchester of course - can take away all the flights from Glasgow to anywhere and everywhere except maybe Barra and we will all have to travel to Manchester to fly anywhere goody, goody.

Where would the airport be sited to be near the rail link? On the green belt? Glasgow Airport needs a good shake up, its a kid on airport. Although MAG's Bournemouth Airport is a joke, it really is a portacabin.

Difficult to see why MAG would not want to make a good job of running GLA: it's in their interests to do so. You can't really transfer the business to Manchester, most people wouldn't go there. But for GLA to well, it'll have to compete with EDI and PIK, which should lead to a better service.
BAA's nonsense about different markets... well of course they don't compete - BAA doesn't want them to! They want them to both to funnel lots of people to their LDN airports for more landing charges and retail spend. Good for BAA; bad for Scotland.

Prestwick's chief executive Mark Rodwell using Glasgow airport was a "dreadful experience" compared to its European counterparts!
Interesting that he uses Glasgow to fly to and from rather than his own "Pure Dead Brilliant" Airport which is looking rather exposed at the moment .A dreadful experience ! He should try flying from his own Airport when they have more than 4 flights to depart within the hour now that is dreadful !

Glasgow and Prestwick have two different market sectors all togheter.
BAA always favoured Edinburgh to Glasgow and so all the MP's, therefore maybe a growing company like MAG could improve Glasgow growt. I rathar fly via Manchester than via London with the sky high taxes and duties.
