The fact that this widely-publicised appeal has [bold]spectacularly failed to take in less than one-third of its target[/bold] is a clear indication that the people of Glasgow are sick and tired of the irresponsible money-wasting which is going on in this city.
[italic]When will the decrepit Glasgow City Council, and its illegitimate offspring Culture and Sport Glasgow, realise that the public are fed up with badly-managed, ostentatious projects like this which divert much-needed money from projects for vulnerable people into the hands of highly-paid consultants and other hangers-on?[/italic]

The transport museum is one of the city's best attractions.
I'm afraid sydney is very misguided if he expected the appeal to rake in £5m from a city of 600,000 people....
To have raised a third of it is a great result.
If you don't like it, don't go, but taxpayers have to get somethig for our money. We can't give it all to help "vulnerable people"
By no means all, but how much of the money spent on "vulnerable people" etc is wasted on folk who are responsible for their own fate ?

Yes....all the money that gets p...ed up the wall subsidising people on the social that just want to keep playing the system as long as they can - rather than spending it on something that'll provide jobs and stimulating the economy.
Doesn't this have overtones of the Concert Hall debacle that happened in 1988-1989 when it went horribly over budget and work had to stop???
Yet is anyone complaining about that now saying it is a waste of money?? No.

Just for the record [bold]the original estimate was £40 million[/bold] and we were assured last year, by none other than our charming and witty Lord Provost, that it would NOT rise beyond £74 million... it's now £85 million and counting...
The Herald, November 14th 2007:
[quote]MrWinter said he was confident it would be completed by 2011 and that there would be no more significant rises in the cost of the building, which has risen from £40m to £74m[/quote]

If targets haven't been met then surely the project should be scrapped as being over buget.... of course if it was scrapped the cooncil wouldn't be able to sell the Kelvin Hall for redevelopment for millions of pounds.

Hi Sydney
I applaud your sense of duty in keeping an eye on all that the council does, and your sense of civic duty in giving informed criticism. However I never hear anything that is modern, forward thinking and dare I say it, constructive in any of your comments. I feel that if you had your way, Glasgow would look like a 1982-theme city, nothing to attract nobody (like Dundee without the sense of pizzazz). You strike me as the kind of blazer wearing grump that has slowed this country down for eons. Have you ever thought of taking up golf or something? I know the clubs are expensive but if you sell your computer to pay for them then that would solve any financial worries and loads of Glaswegians would get a well earned break from you.

"Glasgow's new Riverside Musuem "
Maybe the Evening Times could try to raise some money to fund a reliable proof reader for their online edition.....or at least a primary 2 student who can spell "museum"?

Never mind a transport museum, what about a proper transport system, like a citywide underground system running 24/7 with reasonable fares.

All the money being spent on the new MOT is a waste. The money is being spent on what looks like a tin shed. Look at the Kelvingrove Museum all that money spent and the interaction thing dont work, all the water that gets in when it rains and dont get me started on the overpriced cafe. the old 1 was better. Maybe they should maintain all there museums and not wait untill they need to close for a "revamp"

I always enjoyed taking my children to the transport museum but no matter how enjoyable it was I cannot agree with the idea of spending so much money on its replacement. It is about time the City Council started to charge entry fees to these sorts of attractions as Council tax payers should not be burdoned with them all. The only reason they will not charge is because they will not be able to continue to fiddle "allegedly" the visitor numbers.

Why don't you all just sit back and take a read at the comments you have made ? Is this what you want people to think of you ? The lot of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Typical Scottish bickering with no foresight for the future and the benefits that this project will brig. Glasgow is one of the few places who have got it right with free access to the public owned assets for all. Please put your brains into gear and remove the blinkers.
Don't bother replying to this post as I will not be reading any replies you aren't worth any more of my time. Well done Glasgow Council Keep it up !
