What’s it called? The happiness capital!

by Marianne Taylor

THOSE looking for happiness should forget dreaming of life in the French Riviera and move to Cumbernauld.

According to a study out today, the North Lanarkshire town is the most cheerful place in the West of Scotland, alongside Kilsyth and Airdrie.

Researchers say the area is the fourth happiest in the whole of Britain, behind Powys in Wales, Manchester, and West Lothian.

Cunninghame in Ayrshire and Falkirk also found places in the top 10, which features four Scots entries.

And it seems west really is best, as Edinburgh was revealed as the most miserable place in Britain.

However, it wasn't the only Scottish location that apparently needs to cheer up. Clydesdale, Cumnock and Doon Valley, and Kyle and Carrick came in at number four on the misery list.

The map was drawn up using responses from the British Household Panel Survey, which quizzed 5000 UK people on lifestyle and wellbeing.

Factors such as employment, health and educational qualifications are also taken into consideration.

Researchers from the Universities of Sheffield and Manchester compiled the statistics.

According to a study out today, the North Lanarkshire town is the most cheerful place in the West of Scotland, alongside Kilsyth and Airdrie.

Apparently Airdrie is full of bampots, a woman who works in Woolworths in the town recently told me, that people go in there shoplifting and believe they have a right to walk out without paying, children and adults alike.

Cumbernauld as Brad says for that to be the happiest place is a load of mince, a huge group of schemes stuck in the country between Falkirk and Glasgow which contains a golf course and a shopping centre which was the epicentre of depression up till a year ago - bizarre.

Maybe Edinburgh is not as happy as those in the west, thats odd, but delving into it a little further, maybe its because Edinburgherers aren't as out their faces and their minds as the populants of the west.

Not that I'm in favour of the populants of the east, a far better place visually than what Glasgow is, a far more ideal tourist destination as opposed to Glasgow and people in Edinburgh appear to be more civil.

I can wak in Princes Street and Leith Walk and have ladies smiling, maybe even saying Hello.

In Glasgow, the scatty, unsociable women we have here are more likely to think you are a freak for trying to brighten up somebody's day.

This study iis a load of tripe.

You said it Brad

Maybe the people who did this study couldn't be bothered visiting Cumbernauld for real and instead watched Gregory's Girl (filmed in 1981) and got the completely wrong impression of the place.
