TRAINS in and out of Glasgow Central Station were suspended today when a fire alarm went off in a signal box.
Dozens of services were disrupted as signal staff
were evacuated.
The alert also affected trains between Partick and Rutherglen before the area was declared safe.
The alarm sounded around 11.25am and the incident led to a handful of cancellations and delays of up to 20minutes on other services.
A number of trains were halted outside Glasgow Central, but passengers remained within the station during the alert.
A spokesman for First ScotRail said: "The signal staff were evacuated as a result of
a fire alarm in a signal box.
"It disrupted train services in and out of the station. Staff returned to work at 11.50am, allowing services to return
to normal."
First ScotRail's website warned of "short notice alterations" and of knock-on delays this afternoon.
The reason for the alarm going off is still being investigated.
