A FAN savaged by a police dog during football riots in Manchester has been found dead.

Alexander Aitkenhead, 39, was discovered by police at his home in Glasgow's East End.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

Alex, who served almost 20 years in jail from 1987 for killing his brother-in-law, was handed a lifetime ban from Rangers after he was dragged across the street by the police dog during violence surrounding the Uefa cup final clash between Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg in May.

Around 50 officers were injured when fans went on the rampage after Rangers were beaten 2-0 by Russian side.

But Alex, from Carntyne, told the Evening Times that he was not involved in the trouble.

He said he had been with 30 pals at his hotel when the police arrived chasing Rangers fans and he was pushed on to the street, where the dog attacked.

He said: "I thought my leg was going to be ripped apart."
