TARTAN Army fans are teaming up with Oxfam Scotland to help vulnerable children in South Africa as their team battles for a place in the World Cup finals there.

The Tartan Army Children's Charity aims to raise £60,000 to support Oxfam and Let Us Grow, which works with needy children near Johannesburg.

The Scottish Football Association today presented a £2500 cheque to TACC to begin the fundraising.

The TACC urged fans to be generous in supporting the charity.

Carey McEvoy, of TACC, said: "We are determined to leave a meaningful legacy when we hopefully visit South Africa in 2010."

The Tartan Army gesture comes days after Rangers announced a three-year partnership with Unicef, pledging £300,000 to help improve children's education in India.

The Let Us Grow project works to give children a better standard of living and access to healthcare.

Scotland takes on Norway at Hampden on Saturday in a qualifier for the 2010 World Cup.
