Mmmmmmm, so kids that are BORN into poor families have no hope in America of bettering themselves? Children all over the world SHOULD be educated as much as possible, and where possible it should be state funded. Nothing wrong with paying some or all of the cost of higher education once you have your degrees and are earning a decent wage. Phrases like "let the poor get poorer" are part of the reason the US is hated by half the world!! Not much chance of a "new start" whilst this sort of attitude prevails. That's the point. Blacks in the US tend to vote Democrate so you can't say for sure the majority only voted for Obama because of his race. Funnily enough it's been said Clinton was the first "black" president and that wasn't because he dressed will and played the sax.

Milly talked about the tea party. i live in a among a very high concentration of military folks and count very many of them as friends....the fact that i want them back does not mean i also have to pander to the agendas set up by either party. individuality of thought, amazing is it not? another freedom that the Democrats would have us give away....

Your quite right on me mixing the two comments. It was the way Milly quoted on them that caught me out. Please explain though how any (western) political party can remove your "individuality of thought". Your are never going to agree with every policy desicion that either the party you support or not makes. You may have to obey the laws, you don't have to change your views. What's the solution? a referendom for every party edict. I didn't and have never voted Labour, however I've still be subjected to 11 years of lies and spin. That's politics I'm afraid and it's still preferential to the dictatorships many people suffer under.

Teddy Roosevelt first called it the White House in 1901 some 36 years after the slave trade was abolished. It was painted White after we (the British) burnt it down (think we were just arsin about) so maybe it's simply called the White House because it's white

because this is a great place to live with great people...don't believe that because GW is president that everybody is like him. i go back to Glasgow twice ayear, and while it is still home and i love the city and Scotland i would never move back....and i have met several people back home in Scotland that tell me they have been here and would like to move if they could. certainly there are distasteful elements here. but you know what i also hear that Scotland now has pushes continuing to rid Scotland of sectarianism (still) and racism...if those problems did not exist why would you need solutions for them? i'm not zipped up the back but it is just as bad back home in the UK as it is here...if not worse...we have just elected a black president. when did Scotland/England elect its first black prime minister?
