A TEAM of Cardonald College students stepped out of the classroom and into the spotlight as they filmed the Scottish Baftas at Glasgow's City Halls.

The star-studded ceremony, which was presented by Radio 1's star DJ Edith Bowman, saw the 2nd year HND television students put their studies into practice as they captured the glamorous red carpet arrivals, event build-up and the glittering ceremony.

The event, which was webcast to a worldwide audience, celebrated the cream of Scotland's film and television talent with star guests including Robert Carlyle, Robbie Coltrane, Jenni Falconer and the stars of Still Game.

Big winners, as reported in last night's Evening Times, were Brian Cox, Ken Stott and Lorraine Kelly.

Cardonald College's work on the prestigious Bafta project began with students putting together clips to be used during the show.

It also included filming and interviewing guests as they arrived and capturing the proceedings as the awards were handed out. Students worked alongside BBC professionals and fellow students from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Amanda Doherty, one of the students who took part on the night, said: "The Scottish Baftas was a very glamorous event, but the team was very professional and we managed to capture some fantastic footage and interviews.

"It was great to put all of our training into practice - and to do it on such a high-profile project is a real confidence boost.

"This is excellent experience for all of us - not just for our on-the-night interviewing and camera skills, but for our editing and production abilities."

Dario Sinforiani, programme co-ordinator for the HND Television course, said: "Our link with Bafta Scotland and the BBC is strengthening each year, which is testament to how good a job the students do on prestigious projects such as this.

"The Scottish Baftas provides a real taste of the industry for aspiring camera and sound men and women, producers and editors."

Footage from the awards will be shown on both the BBC and STV.
