Uni to look at health risks of salt

Researchers from the University of Glasgow are launching a study to find the link between genes and salt.

Professor John Connell is leading the team of scientists who will look at the way salt interacts with our biology to discover if some genes which are predisposed to high blood pressure are kick-started by a high-salt diet.

Professor Connell said: "A greater understanding of the role salt plays in our diet is vital to protecting our children and our children's children."

High blood pressure is common in the west of Scotland and can cause heart attacks and strokes.

The team are looking for volunteers to take part in the study, which is funded by the Medical Research Council.
