Xmas bonus of £311 for city homeowners

MORE than 6600 homeowners across Glasgow are to get a Christmas cash windfall - for going green.

They will receive up to £311 per home from power company Scottish and Southern Energy - with 4456 getting the full amount.

It is being handed out because overcladding insulation work carried out by Glasgow Housing Association has made the houses more energy efficient - and helped the power firm meet its Government targets to cut energy consumption.

GHA provides a factoring service to 26,500 owners through its subsidiary company - GHA Management Ltd - which completed the application process for a grant on behalf of its customers. Homeowners would not have been able to access the grant themselves.

In addition, more than 2000 who received a grant of up to 100% from Glasgow City Council to help towards overcladding costs will receive a proportion of the money.

The exact amount will depend on the administration charge that is levied by the council and the level of grant the owner received.

Jennifer Russell, managing director of GHA Management Ltd, said: "A number of our customers have already enjoyed the many benefits of GHA's overcladding programme, including a reduction in heating bills, improved energy efficiency and increased property value.

"That we have been able to secure this money as a result of their efforts towards helping the environment is great news."

The factoring firm is now passing on the money to all homeowners who qualify for the cash, with those eligible due to receive a cheque over the next few weeks - just in time for Christmas.

Homeowners who have recently moved from their GHAM factored property and not updated their records are being urged to contact the factor immediately (0141 274 6460) to ensure anyone who is eligible for the one-off payment does not miss out.

The criteria set out by Scottish and Southern Energy for the one-off payment includes properties that have been overclad since April 1, 2005, and where work was completed up to March 31 this year.

GHAM is working with the power company to secure a similar deal for owners who have had or who are in the process of having insulated overcladding installed from April 1 this year.

Owners who have not already paid their bill for overcladding will have any grant payment deducted from their outstanding bill.

Sean Clerkin, chairman of the Glasgow Home Owners' Campaign said: "We very much welcome this from GHA. It's a major step in the right direction."

I've read this article over and over, and I can't get my head round it.
I don't live in Glasgow (thank f!!k) however I've spent thousands insulating my house using my own money (and some of the missus')but people who got a 100% grant are to get another handout? Eh????

These aren't ordinary home-owners, people like me and most other Glasgow residents, who have to pay their bills. These are the special, feather-bedded owners of former council houses.

The gobby ones who think they're still tenants but live in boat hooses and get special easy terms to pay for factor and repair bills, funded by GHA tenants.

You know it's a bad deal for the rest of us if the trotskyite Mr Clerkin (who when I last heard lived in leafy East Renfrewshire) and his weird pressure group approves of it.

I had to pay to get the kerb outside my driveway lowered. But out in Lennoxtown the kerbs of council houses with driveways and their owner neighbours were lowered by the council for free.....just before the last election.

I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT I AN READING, HOMEOWNERS ARE ACTUALLY TO RECIEVE A CASHBACK PAYMENT, WHY? THIS ALSO INCLUDE PEOPLE WHO I KNOW PERSONALLY, WHO HAVE GOT 100% DISCOUNT ON ALL IMPROVEMENT WORKS TO THEIR PROPERTY, I AM TOTALLY DISGUSTED AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY TENANTS ARE NOT ALSO RECIEVING THIS "WEE BONUS" THE OVER CLADDING IS SUPPOSED TO TO BE ENERGY SUFFICIENT HOWEVER AS ONE OF THE MANY ON LOW INCOME, IN MY OPINION I FEEL THAT IS NOT TRUE AS I AM HAVING TO PURCHASE THREE TIMES THE AMOUNT I WOULD NORMALLY HAVE TOO, TO KEEP MY HOUSE WARM, THIS IS NOT ONLY MY OPINION BUT ALSO THE OPINION OF MANY TENANTS AND HOMEOWNERS, MAYBE IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR THE EVENING TIMES TO CARRY OUT A SURVEY REGARDING THIS

AND WHY CAN'T THE HOMEOWNERS AND ACCESS THE MONEY THEMSELVES , WHY JUST ALL HOMEOWNERS AND EVEN THE ONES THAT PAID NOTHING, THATS NOT RIGHT AND IF HOMEOWNERS THAT GOT 100% GRANT AND PAID £50 ADMIN CHARGE TO CITY COUNCIL, "WHY WOULD THEY BE AWARDED CASH BACK AND NOT ALL AND FOR HEATING BEING GOOD AFTER THESE WORKS BEING DONE DONT THINK SO ITS COSTING A FORTUNE TO KEEP PROPERTIES WARM BEFORE THE IMPROVEMENT WORKS AND AFTER THE IMPROVEMENT WORKS

HI THERE AS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY I AGREE FULLY WITH HOMEOWNERS, SOME ARE OLD VULNERABLE AND ARE NOT LISTENED TOO, OTHERS WILL STAND UP AND ARGUE THE POINT HOWEVER WHAT EVER PEOPLE DO THEY DO BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT ITS THE RIGHT AND PROPER THING TO DO AND SO THEY SHOULD,THIS NOT ONLY EFFECTS HOMEOWNERS TENANTS ARE ALSO NOT GETTING A FAIR DEAL OR LISTENED TOO EITHER, SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY HAVE FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE AND CORRESPONDENCES TO BACK UP WHAT THEY SAY, SO I WOULD LIKE TO SAY WHOEVER YOU ARE STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE BECAUSE, UNITED WE STAND DEVIDED WE FALL
