Big drop in Scots drink-drive total

THE number of Scots caught drink-driving has fallen by more than 20%.

And police today praised people for reporting offenders after receiving a record number of phone tip-offs.

Latest figures from the festive drink-drug purge show 184 drivers arrested in the second week of the annual crackdown - 51 fewer than last year.

In Strathclyde, 80 people were arrested. Assistant Chief Constable Jim Green warned: "There is no room for complacency."
