RADIO presenter Suzie McGuire who is accused of assaulting her husband during an alleged row was too ill to attend court yesterday.

Sheriff James Spy was told that DJ McGuire - who was appearing under her married name of Susan Mitchell - was too unwell to attend the pre-trial hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

The court also heard that she would not be well enough to attend her trial which was scheduled for next month. Her GP has said that she is not fit to attend court.

Ms McGuire, 44, is accused of assaulting her husband Derek Mitchell in their home in Eaglesham, East Renfrewshire, on December 8, 2012.

It is alleged she struck him on the body and knocked him down a flight of stairs, repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped on his head and body, and repeatedly struck him with various household articles.

Mother-of-four McGuire is also alleged to have attacked him with the heel of a shoe.

She also faces a second charge of placing her husband in a state of fear and alarm by repeatedly shouting at him in a threatening and aggressive manner, pursuing him up a fight of stairs and forcing open a bathroom door.

The Clyde 1 radio presenter, who was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday, has been suspended by the station pending the outcome of the case.

Her lawyer, Michael Gallen, told Sheriff Spy: "She is not present. A letter was received at my office by fax yesterday morning.

"She is not fit to attend today nor is she fit to proceed with the trial in September."

The case has been continued until next week for investigations to be made to see when McGuire will be fit to stand trial.

She was excused attendance at the next calling of the case.

The presenter married Mr Mitchell in 2010.
