A GLASGOW doctor donated bone marrow to a stranger in need of a lifesaving treatment.
Dr Scott Shepherd, 26, was contacted by blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan 18 months ago after he was found to be a match.
He donated in April in a procedure similar to giving blood.
Scott signed up to the bone marrow register eight years ago when he was a first year medical student in Glasgow.
Scott said: "I feel that I am linked to a stranger by the simple fact that we have a similar tissue type.
"That person spent the last year in and out of hospital, hoping that they were well enough for a transplant.
"I spent a couple of days out of my life to try to save theirs.
"I'm now waiting to hear how the transplant went, and really hope it will be successful."
