Doctors in the house...

WORLD renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti added another string to her bow when she accepted an honorary Doctor of Music title.

The 25-year-old was honoured along with Glasgow-born actor and director David Hayman at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduation ceremony in Glasgow.

Screen star David became an honorary Doctor of Drama along with broadcaster Richard Holloway and artistic director of Scottish Ballet Ashley Page.

Meanwhile, singer and actress Barbara Dickson was also rewarded with a Doctor of Music.

Benedetti, from West Kilbride, began violin lessons at the age of five, and took 2008's Young Classical Brit Award.

She has released five albums and performed across the world with high profile orchestras.

On Saturday she will debut as the first classical performer on the Main Stage at T in the Park.

Olivier Award-winner and multi-million selling recording artist Barbara, originally from Dunfermline, added her honorary degree to an OBE.

David received his degree for his acting, directing and humanitarian work.

He studied at the Conservatoire, then known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, before beginning a successful theatre, television and cinema career.
