GLASGOW'S new Dreamliner flights have earned a near-100% satisfaction rate.

The first passengers returning from the aircraft's maiden long-haul flights have rated the experience as "excellent" or "good".

And holiday bosses said future flights from Glasgow Airport – the only Scottish hub for the new fleet of 13 planes – are selling out fast.

Carl Gissing, director of customer service for Thomson Airways, said: "The feedback we've had has been extremely positive.

"A total of 97% of customers rated their flight on the Dreamliner as 'excellent' or 'good'.

"Our Glasgow routes on the 787 have proved very popular and future flights are well sold."

As reported in the Evening Times earlier this month, the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight from Glasgow Airport sold out.

Nearly 300 passengers flew on the 4737 mile journey from Scotland's largest airport to Cancun, Mexico.

The aeroplane also makes a nine-hour flight to Sanford, Florida, on new, weekly long-haul routes.

The £63 million planes are the most fuel-efficient in the world.

Mr Gissing added: "The Dreamliner is set to revolutionise air travel.

"It can fly much further than similar sized aircraft so it gives us the opportunity to offer more long-haul destinations from regional airports across the UK, including Glasgow."

Meanwhile, Glasgow businesses could benefit from improved access to overseas markets thanks to proposals unveiled by Heathrow Airport to solve the lack of runway capacity in the UK.

Under new proposals, a third full-length runway would be built at the London hub.

For Glasgow this would mean the potential for airlines to offer more frequent daily flights from the city to Heathrow, making it easier for businesses in Glasgow to connect with onward flights to further international destinations.
