A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving after two police officers were hit by a car and seriously injured in the West Midlands.
The officers were talking to a driver in a stationary car on the A461 at Dudley Port, Tipton, at 1.30am yesterday when a VW Golf hit the vehicle and then the officers, police said.
One officer suffered two broken legs and the other a broken leg.
The Golf driver was taken to hospital with a suspected broken shoulder.
The 37-year-old woman driver was arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving and will be questioned by police when she is discharged, a spokesman said.
Ch Insp Jack Hadley from West Midlands Police, said: "The officers were initially treated by colleagues before firearms officers - who have advanced life-saving skills - arrived to provide major trauma care."
Police said the force of the crash shunted the stopped car into the officers before the Golf hit them, throwing them into the air.
Both officers, who are in the 40s and are based at the Old Hill police station in Tipton, are being treated in hospital.
The driver of the Golf, who is from the Dudley Port area of Tipton, had to be cut free by firefighters, police said.
The driver of the car initially stopped by officers was not seriously injured.
Dudley Port was closed for four hours while emergency services responded to the crash.
