Campus cops are helping cut crime and tackle anti-social behaviour.

A report by academics at Glasgow Caledonian University and Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen was the first study to assess the impact of basing police in schools.

MARK BARROW'S first priority on taking up his post at Drumchapel High School was to establish a rapport with pupils.

From day one the campus police officer insisted on first name terms with youngsters – and his approach has been credited for anti-social behaviour falling nearly 50%.

PC Barrow is one of 55 campus cops working in schools around Scotland. They help stop anything from online sexual grooming to shopkeepers selling cigarettes and illegal drugs to young people.

A new study carried out by Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen showed that officers stationed in schools have cut violence and anti-social behaviour.

And Mark's work in Drumchapel High is a perfect example of their efforts.
