Will Lorimer, 28, from Ayrshire, is among a British expedition team whose home has become the back of a Defender 110 Land Rover since they set off on their epic expedition.

The team -- Will, Lynn Morris and Tim Bromfield -- has passed through 16 countries and clocked up more than 10,000 miles, as part of a continuing education project to raise awareness of the consequences of rising sea levels for low-lying communities around the Atlantic.

The Atlantic Rising charity team has visited 17 schools and met more than 5000 students in communities affected by rising sea levels.

The group is spending the festive season in the coastal village of Butre, Ghana.

But the trip has already provided some terrifying adventures including being held hostage by rebels on Africa’s Ivory Coast and being shipwrecked in Guinea Bissau.

During their adventure the team of three will set up an educational network between 40 schools across the world, some of which will be affected by the sea level rise.

Pupils from Jordanhill School in Glasgow, Largs Academy and Prestwick Academy in Ayrshire and Tiree Community High School in the Hebrides will link up with schools from threatened areas.

The trip is supported by the Royal Geographic Society (with IBG) and Land Rover.
