Dresses are pale ... the lips red hot

Much of it was pale, but all of it was interesting as the stars went to town for one of the Oscars most adventurous red carpet showings.

After years of boring black and fishtailed tube dresses, the fabrics were more lavish and the silhouettes more daring.
